PRIMARY AND SECONDARY ITT

PRIMARY 

Primary education covers:

  • Key stage 1: 5-7 year olds; school years 1-2
  • Key stage 2: 7-11 year olds; school years 3-6

You will need to feel confident about teaching a wide range of national curriculum subjects, which include:

Core subjects: English, maths and Science.

Foundation subjects: Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, MFL, Geography, History, Music and Physical Education.

In addition, primary schools must teach Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)  Primary ITT courses increasingly offer a specialism in a growing range of subjects, with incentives for some, such as maths.    

SECONDARY

ITT in secondary teaching entails a specialist subject . Secondary schools cover Key Stage 3 (11-14),  Key Stage 4 (14-16) and Key Stage 5 (16-19)

Core subjects: English, maths and Science.

Foundation subjects: Art and Design, Computing, Design and Technology, MFL, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Psychology and Sociology.

In addition, secondary schools must teach Religious Education;  sex and relationship guidance and PSHE.
